There’s something special about a wedding day that doesn’t go exactly as planned. This beautiful May wedding at Hideaway on the Hocking began with rain, but by the time the day unfolded, the clouds parted and gave us some of the most incredible skies imaginable.

Located along the Hocking River in Guysville, Ohio, just outside Athens, Hideaway on the Hocking is a truly unique wedding setting, surrounded by rolling countryside, water, and natural beauty. The venue offers a relaxed, intimate atmosphere that feels less like a traditional wedding venue and more like a place where family and friends can gather and celebrate together.

As a Hideaway on the Hocking wedding photographer, I loved watching the weather change throughout the day. The morning rain brought a soft, romantic feeling to everything. Then, slowly, the clouds began to break apart. Blue skies appeared, the clouds became beautifully dramatic, and suddenly we had the perfect conditions for portraits.

The ceremony was so unique, as it was so casual. They had everyone gathered around as the bride walked down the aisle with her dad and the groom looked on. They had a short and intimate celebration of their new life and marriage together.

And then came the sunset.

The evening light was absolutely breathtaking. That warm, golden glow settled over the property and created the kind of light photographers dream about. It was the perfect ending to a day that had started under gray skies. What I loved most about this wedding was how naturally the day unfolded. There was no need for everything to be perfectly predictable.
