There’s something about this time of year that gets me itching to try something new. Especially after the year we’ve had, I know I’m especially ready to mix up the routine a little bit and get out with my family. We love day trips to check out fun spots around Columbus, Cincinnati, and Athens, Ohio. You can’t go wrong with grabbing the kiddos and piling into the van for one of these easy family getaways:
Franklin Park Conservatory, Columbus-Central, Ohio
With expansive and beautiful gardens both indoors and outdoors, you’ll feel comfortable no matter where you wander in this 88-acre public park. We especially love the Children’s Garden and the famous Paul Bussey garden railway. It’s a must-see and worth a day trip to Columbus!
Hocking Hills State Park, Logan/Athens-Southwest, Ohio
If you haven’t been to Hocking Hills State Park, you truly don’t know what you’re missing! This natural gem happens to be in my backyard and it not only boasts an amazing backdrop for professional photos such as this family photo session and film, but it has a ton of options for families of any age.
Little Miami State Park and Bike Trail, Loveland/Wilmington-Southwest
This is our go-to spot for biking and kayaking. With 50 miles of paved trails paralleling the Little Miami River, you can bike, run, horseback ride or kayak your way on this unique outdoor experience.
Cincinnati Museum Center, Cincinnati-Southwest
The Cincinnati Museum Center is located in my hometown of Cincinnati and is one of the top 20 visited museums in the country! You also get more bang for your buck since the Museum Center includes the History Museum, Museum of Natural History and Science, OMNIMAX Theater, and the Children’s Museum (note: the Children’s Museum is currently closed due to Covid-19).
Dawes Arboretum, Newark-Central Ohio
This is one of my favorite places nearby Columbus to just go and be with nature. With beautiful walking trails over 2,000 acres, it’s quite literally a tree museum, in nature. Stop by this peaceful retreat to get back to nature.
