One of the things that really makes Athens stand out in the spring are the famous Cherry Blossoms that bloom every year (well except that one time when they froze). It is also the time of the year that my photography business kicks into gear again after a winter lull. I love starting the year off with these beautiful cherry trees blossoming in Athens Ohio. Typically they blossom the first and 2nd weekend in April. This year in 2023 it looks like they will be about three weeks sooner! Every year is so different and so dependent on the weather, rain and frost.
People love to congregate under the Athens Ohio Cherry Blossoms along the Hocking River in Athens. You will always find groups of families and friends gathered with a picnic basket or a guitar to soak in the first beautiful days of spring. It is certainly not a bad place to be.
Photographs under the Cherry Trees
Every year I photograph many families and couples under these cherry trees. They make for a beautiful backdrop to update your family photos just before Easter. I usually host a couple days of mini sessions down by the trees, so be on the lookout for those to be available just as soon as the tress start to bud I begin to plan these. My mini sessions include many posed (looking at the camera) photos. After we get those posed shots, you can let your guard down and I’ll capture the natural and candid photos. I know you will love these the most!
One year I made a film for a mother and son under the Athens Ohio Cherry Blossoms. See it here. It was a beautiful story shared between the two of them.
Ohio University Cap and Gown Sessions
The other photo session that keeps me busy in the spring are Cap and Gown sessions with students graduating from Ohio University. Sometimes I’ve even done these down by the Cherry Trees as well!
